A 31-year-old accountant in India, Vanapalli Chandra Kishore, died by suicide after killing his two sons, aged six and seven, allegedly due to concerns over their academic performance.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday night, March 14, 2025, in Ramanayyapet, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Kishore reportedly left a suicide note, expressing his belief that his children—who were in upper kindergarten and first grade—were struggling academically and would find it difficult to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.
According to Sarpavaram police station inspector B. Peddi Raju, Kishore worked as an assistant at the ONGC office, an oil company in Kakinada. “He drowned his two sons in buckets of water after tying their hands and legs. The family was financially stable, making his actions even more shocking,” the officer said.
Kishore had been married to Tanuja Sai Rani since 2017, and the couple’s sons, Joshith (7) and Nikhil (6), were enrolled in a private school. Neighbors described the family as friendly, with no visible signs of distress. Concerned about their children’s academic performance, the parents had planned to transfer them to a better school in the upcoming academic year and had even begun making inquiries.
On the day of the tragedy, the family visited Kishore’s workplace to celebrate Holi with his colleagues. A short while after arriving, he told his wife that he was taking the children to a tailor for new school uniforms. However, he did not return.
Tanuja repeatedly called her husband’s phone, but he did not answer. Eventually, he sent a message saying he would be back in 10 minutes—yet he never showed up. Worried, she and one of his colleagues went to their house, only to find the doors locked from the inside.
With no response from within, locals helped break down the door. Inside, they found Kishore hanging from the ceiling fan, while his two sons lay lifeless in the bathroom, their hands and legs bound, their heads submerged in buckets of water.
A police officer investigating the case remarked, “It is too early to judge how children this young would perform academically in the real world. We are not sure what was going through their father’s mind. There may be other factors behind his drastic decision.”
Authorities are now questioning Kishore’s wife and gathering information from relatives in the area to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
