Driver ploughs into pedestrians sending them flying over an ARGUMENT

Pedestrians tried to flee speed as they try to flee before SUV mows them down and throws into the air.

The car speeds up in pursuit of the victims and mows into them as it turns right into Malefant Street in Cathays, Cardiff.

The group try to jump out of the way but pedestrians Abdalrhman Ali and Ryan Jones are hit, while their two friends run away up Crwys Road.

Mr Jones suffered injuries to his pelvis and right foot while Mr Ali lost consciousness and suffered injuries to his ribs, chest, abdomen and jaw.

The deliberate attack was orchestrated in response to a row over an Airbnb rental, which saw Mr Ali, Mr Jones and another friend book a weekend in a property via the holiday lettings site.

But when they arrived at the home, they found that Johnathan Newbury, 33, and Elliott Fiteni, 23, were already there.

Elliott Fiteni

Newbury was cleared of attempted murder but was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in connection with the car attack last July.

Due to be sentenced next month, Newbury was also found guilty of attempted GBH and carrying a machete in public.

However, Fiteni was found not guilty of all charges.

By chance, both parties had made a booking at the same address.

When victims Mr Jones and Mr Ali walked up to the building, Newbury and his associate Fiteni were already there.

Newbury began hurling threats at the pair, shouting ‘I’ll f*** you up’ through a window.

Mr Jones and Mr Ali left to drop off a bike at a friend’s house and when they returned to the Airbnb, they spoke to a woman who warned them that Newbury and Fiteni would ‘bonnet’ them.

‘The meaning of this term became clear from what happened,’ prosecutor James Wilson told Cardiff Crown Court.
