On Thursday, the Norwegian Palace released a health update regarding Crown Princess Mette-Marit, revealing that her pulmonary fibrosis has progressed.
However, the 51-year-old royal was seen in good spirits on Friday as she made her first appearance following the news. She attended the Nordic World Ski Championships alongside her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, where they were joined by Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, along with their two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
In a clip shared by the Norwegian Palace, Mette-Marit was captured displaying her excitement and emotion as she cheered on the competitors. The post included the caption: “Good atmosphere in Granåsen!”
The Swedish Palace also shared a photo of the royal families together, with Mette-Marit and Haakon donning stylish orange duffel coats for the chilly weather. Victoria looked stunning in a blue coat, while Daniel matched her in green. The children were dressed in black coats.
The Palace expressed their enthusiasm with the message: “Ready for a weekend in Trondheim! Welcome to Trondheim and the Ski World Championships!” along with a gold medal emoji and the Norwegian and Swedish flags.
Fans were delighted by the images, with one commenting, “What a wonderful picture. It embodies the close relationship the kings of Sweden and Norway share with both nature and the people.” Another added, “A nice friendship, and the charming Oscar,” while a third wrote, “True friendship is the most beautiful thing. Wishing you pleasant days together.”
Concerning Mette-Marit’s health, the statement mentioned, “The Crown Princess experiences daily symptoms and ailments that impact her ability to perform her duties. She requires more rest, and her daily routine may change more quickly than before. This means her official schedule may need adjustments more frequently and with shorter notice than we are accustomed to.
“The Crown Princess is eager to continue her work, and we will strive to organize her official engagements in a way that accommodates her health while allowing her to fulfill her responsibilities.”
Prior to this statement, Mette-Marit was last seen publicly the day before, visiting a children’s ward at Ulleval Hospital.
