Count Nikolai had a heartwarming response to his father, Prince Joachim, starring in a newly released documentary.
Prince Joachim, the son of Queen Margrethe, is featured in Hærvejen, a film that follows him and author Steffen Jacobsen as they hike parts of Denmark’s oldest road while sharing personal stories and reflections. Directed by Jesper H. Grand, the documentary premiered at CPH:DOX on 20 March 2025.
Among the first to react was Joachim’s eldest son, Count Nikolai. Taking to Instagram Stories, the model proudly shared a clip from the documentary, captioning it: “The coolest dad in his upcoming documentary!”
The Danish royal family also highlighted the project on their official Instagram page, writing: “On Thursday, a new documentary will premiere at CPH:DOX. The film follows His Royal Highness Prince Joachim and writer Steffen Jacobsen on a walk along Hærvejen—the historic route that has connected Jutland from north to south for centuries.”
The caption further described the journey: “From North Jutland to Kliplev Church in Southern Jutland, the Prince and the author traverse Denmark’s stunning landscapes, retracing paths walked by travelers, warriors, and merchants for centuries. Along the way, they engage in candid conversations about social heritage, responsibility, and the life experiences that shape a person.”
Royal fans were quick to express their excitement, with one commenting: “Prince Joachim is an incredible storyteller and historian,” while another added: “I’ve been waiting for this! He speaks so passionately about Denmark’s history.”
Prince Joachim, the youngest son of Queen Margrethe and younger brother of King Frederik X, shares two sons—Count Nikolai and Count Felix—with his first wife, Alexandra Manley, and has two younger children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, with his current wife, Princess Marie.
Born on 28 August 1999, Count Nikolai was originally titled a Prince but, as of 1 January 2023, he and his siblings lost their royal titles following a decision by Queen Margrethe. At the time, the Queen stated: “This is something I have considered for a long time, and I believe it will be beneficial for their future.”
Prince Joachim later expressed his disappointment, saying: “It’s never easy to see your children go through something they don’t fully understand.”
