FIFA is set to make a historic addition to the 2026 World Cup by introducing a halftime show during the final, inspired by the NFL’s Super Bowl format. Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey have been appointed to curate a lineup of artists for this unprecedented performance at the world’s premier sporting event.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the development at a press conference in Dallas, revealing details about the tournament that will take place in North America.
“I am pleased to confirm the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York/New Jersey, in collaboration with Global Citizen. This will mark a significant moment for the FIFA World Cup and will create a showcase worthy of the biggest sporting event on the planet,” Infantino stated.
In a manner reminiscent of the NFL’s partnership with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for the Super Bowl halftime show, FIFA will collaborate with Martin and Harvey to compile a list of potential performers for the World Cup final, scheduled for July 19, 2026.
It remains uncertain if Coldplay will perform at the event. Halftime breaks in soccer generally last around 15 minutes, but FIFA may extend this duration to accommodate a more elaborate performance, similar to what is seen at the Super Bowl.
