Bank manager, was killed AFTER being hit by a vehicle in President of Kenya’s convoy

A 79-year-old retired bank manager is dead after being hit by a vehicle in President William Ruto’s convoy while he was crossing a busy road in the country’s capital, Nairobi.

Edgar Riches, from Poole in Dorset had been visiting his sister and nephew when he was killed. He was in the country doing charity work.

He had previously raised money to sponsor building ‘an orphanage or school’ and visited Kenya to support their charities.

Police arrested the driver of a support vehicle and have launched an investigation into the alleged hit-and-run. The driver failed to stop after the incident, police said. He has since been bailed.

A post mortem examination determined the cause of death as multiple trauma.

Mr Riches, who had lived in Canford Cliffs, Dorset, for at least 50 years, was a long-standing member of the town’s Conservative Association and often visited Our Lady of Fatima and St Joseph and St Walburga Churches.
