A babysitter in Kansas made a terrifying discovery while trying to reassure a child that there was no “monster” lurking beneath their bed.
On the night of Monday, March 24, at approximately 10:30 p.m., authorities responded to a disturbance call at a residence on the 2000 block of Patton Road, just outside Great Bend, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a Facebook statement.
Babysitter Confronts Intruder Under the Bed
According to police, the babysitter was putting the children to bed when one child expressed fear about a “monster” under the bed. In an attempt to prove there was nothing there, she looked underneath—only to come face-to-face with a man hiding under the bed.
A physical struggle broke out between the babysitter and the intruder, during which one child was knocked over. The suspect managed to escape before deputies arrived.
Suspect Arrested After Attempting to Flee
Authorities later identified the intruder as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr., who had previously lived in the home but was under a protection from abuse order that prohibited him from being on the property.
Deputies searched the area that night but were unable to locate him. However, the following morning, Villalobos Jr. was spotted near the 2000 block of Patton Road and attempted to flee on foot before being captured after a short chase.
Multiple Charges Filed
Villalobos Jr. has been booked into Barton County Jail on multiple charges, including:
- Aggravated kidnapping
- Aggravated burglary
- Aggravated battery
- Child endangerment
- Felony obstruction of law enforcement
- Violation of a protection from abuse order
He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond, authorities confirmed.
