Baby boy is UNCONSCIOUS after being given ten times the correct dose of paracetamol by medics

A baby boy Zohan Ul Hassan is critically ill after he was given ten times the correct dose of paracetamol in a hospital.

He was born seven weeks premature on January 24.

The devastated parents of eight-week-old say they are now ‘praying for a miracle’ after the incident at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Although doctors administered antidote acetylcysteine, the infant began having seizures and was transferred to the paediatric intensive care unit.

He is under sedation and on a ventilator and remains unconscious.

His father Ahad Ul Hassan said that Zohan needed surgery for hernia in early March and was discharged.

A week later he started showing symptoms again and the family, from Ayr, were told he needed another hernia operation on the other side of his abdomen.

The baby went under the knife on March 18 but Mr Ul Hassan and wife Hira were not worried because they’d been through it before.

However, the father received a call at 12.30pm at work to say the couple had to go to the hospital immediately as ‘his medical team had made a huge blunder’.

He told the broadcaster: ‘They said he had been poisoned – instead of 20g of Paracetamol, he was given 200mg during the surgery.’

A full investigation has now been launched.

Mr Ul Hassan said his son appeared ‘very disturbed’ as if he was unable to cry while his heartbeat ‘skyrocketed to two or three times the normal rate’ with ‘cannulas all over his body’.

Zohan yesterday remained critically ill with swelling on the brain and doctors are unable to predict the outcome.

As it is, he may suffer irreversible brain damage and problems with his visions if he pulls through.
