A man was shot by the US Secret Service early Sunday morning, March 9, following an armed confrontation near the White House.

The incident, which occurred just minutes away from the White House, prompted a swift response from law enforcement, multiple US media outlets reported.

The confrontation took place near the intersection of 17th Street and F Street NW, approximately a five-minute walk from the White House.

Authorities had been tracking the suspect after DC police issued a warning about a “suicidal individual” who was possibly traveling from Indiana. The suspect’s vehicle was located near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which sits adjacent to the White House.

Armed Standoff with Secret Service

US Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi stated that when officers approached the vehicle, the suspect brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which shots were fired by Secret Service personnel.

“Thankfully, no injuries were reported among Secret Service agents,” Guglielmi confirmed.

The suspect was transported to the hospital, but his current condition remains unknown.

“The status of the individual is currently unknown,” the Secret Service stated.
