Meghan Markle’s Netflix series featured several of her celebrity friends, including Mindy Kaling and long-time best friend Abigail Spencer. However, one request from the Duchess of Sussex left Abigail completely baffled.
Abigail, who has been close friends with Meghan since their Suits days in 2007, admitted that despite Meghan’s well-known love for cooking, her own skills in the kitchen are seriously lacking. So, when Meghan suggested they salt-bake a fish together on camera, Abigail was caught off guard.
“It was so funny when she told me she was going to teach me how to cook fish. I was like, ‘I’m sorry, you’re what?’ And I didn’t even know where anything was in that kitchen,” she laughed.
Comparing their culinary skills, Abigail joked: “I felt like I was just doggy paddling while she was doing butterfly kicks! Meghan is about to win a gold medal, and I’m just staying afloat!”
Throughout the episode, Abigail cheered on Meghan and their friend Kelly McKee Zajfen, who also joined the celebration. But Meghan was well aware of Abigail’s lack of cooking expertise, making a playful remark while driving to meet them.
“Kelly’s a great cook,” Meghan said to the camera before adding with a knowing pause, “Abby has other strengths!”
Watching the episode later, Abigail found the moment hilarious. “I was dying laughing when she said, ‘Kelly and Abigail are coming over,’ and then, ‘You know, Kelly’s such a good cook, she’s so good, and Abby has other strengths.’ That is so true!”
While cooking may not be her forte, Abigail proudly highlighted one of her talents—running her floral company, County Line Florals. She joked: “My strengths tend to be more in the ‘while-you’re-cooking-I-will-serve-you-champagne’ category.”
County Line Florals is a subscription-based flower service named in honor of Abigail’s late father, Yancy Spencer III, a five-time U.S. surfing champion who tragically passed away while surfing at County Line, on the Malibu/Ventura border, on February 14, 2011.
