Abigail Spencer Offers Rare Glimpse Into Her Private Friendship With Meghan Markle Amid Netflix Documentary

Over the years, the Duchess of Sussex has cultivated a close circle of friends, including actress Abigail Spencer, who recently shared rare insights into their decades-long bond.

Meghan and Abigail first crossed paths at an audition in 2007, but their friendship deepened when they worked together on the legal drama Suits. Since then, Abigail has been by Meghan’s side for many of her major life milestones, including her wedding to Prince Harry, hosting a baby shower before Prince Archie’s birth, and appearing as a guest in Meghan’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

Adding to their unique connection, the two share the same birthday—day, month, and year—calling themselves “birthday soul sisters.” Speaking about her decision to feature alongside Meghan, Abigail said:

“We have a very private friendship, so choosing to share a part of that is… well, it’s very personal. But I’m glad we got to offer a little glimpse into it.”

During the episode, Abigail joined Meghan and their mutual friend, Kelly McKee Zajfen, to prepare a lunch of salt-crusted fish—reflecting Meghan’s lifelong love of cooking, a passion she often showcased on The Tig, her former lifestyle blog.

“Meghan is the ultimate hostess. She’s been this way for years,” Abigail, 43, revealed. “But I was really there just to support her and surround her. This show is her heart, and it was so natural—I was just there to have fun, to delight in her, and to be a safe space. I think that comes through.”

Although Abigail is based in Los Angeles—about two hours from Montecito, where Meghan and Harry reside—she made the trip north to film the episode. The setting was an $8 million mansion owned by high-society couple Tom and Sherrie Cipolla, located just down the road from the Sussexes’ home.

Explaining why she opted not to film in their residence, Meghan previously shared:

“I wanted to protect that safe haven. We’re a close-knit family, and I cherish those everyday moments—putting Lili down for a nap, having lunch together, winding down at the end of the day. Our kitchen is where I cook for my family, and with a crew of 80-plus people, that’s a lot to bring into your home!”

Reflecting on the filming experience, Abigail described the day as “beautifully fun” and expressed pride in Meghan’s vision.

“Creating this was so authentic for her. I’ve known her a long time, and she was doing all of this many years ago. I’m just grateful it has come full circle.”
