A Zimbabwean man’s birthday took a shocking turn when he discovered used condoms in his matrimonial bedroom, leading to a confrontation that resulted in his wife hiring bouncers to attack him and throw him out of their home.
Kenias Zimbwa detailed his ordeal at the Harare Civil Court, alleging that his wife, Chipiwa Taruona, enlisted two men, including her brother, a soldier, to beat him, leave him bruised, and force him out of the house naked.
“I came home on my birthday to find used condoms under my bed. When I confronted her, she hired bouncers to attack me. One of them was her brother, who is a soldier. They assaulted me, left me with bruises, and threw me out naked. My wife also attacked me with a screwdriver four times,” Zimbwa told the court.
He further claimed that Chipiwa had been depriving him of marital rights for months while engaging in extramarital affairs.
“I was devastated to learn that my wife has been unfaithful while denying me intimacy for months. She doesn’t cook for me, and I am forced to sleep on the floor without a blanket. I fear for my life and worry she might kill me. I seek the court’s protection,” he added.
In her defense, Chipiwa admitted to hiring the bouncers but insisted that it was retaliation, claiming that Zimbwa had been abusing her for years.
“My husband has been sexually abusing me for years. I hired people to attack him,” she told the court.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in Chipiwa’s favor, granting her a protection order. The magistrate advised Zimbwa to file his own application for protection if he felt threatened.
