Veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu has expressed his admiration for Yemi Alade’s choice of attire at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 3.
Though she was a nominee, Alade made a stunning appearance in a traditional red Edo state outfit.
In a video shared online, Agu lauded Alade for representing African culture on the global stage through her wardrobe choice.
“Yemi Alade, you are a queen, the queen you believe you are. She may not have won the Grammy, but she won my heart. If no one else will say it, I, Chief Chiwetalu, will give you your flowers.
“Not only did she represent Afrobeat, but she also showcased African culture. Through her attire, she is placing African heritage on the world map. Her outfit spoke volumes: ‘I did not come to impress; I know my roots.’
“We often discuss how genuine and grounded she is as an artist, and how beautiful she is as a woman. The body is tea. How talented, disciplined, reserved, established, and humble she is.
Yemi, continue being the role model you are to countless young girls. Chief Chiwetalu admires and loves you dearly. I pray you find your Johnny at the right time.”
