Hamas has rejected President Donald Trump’s proposal for the United States to take control of the Gaza Strip and relocate Palestinians to other countries.
The plan, which was announced during a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggested displacing over two million Palestinians from Gaza, clearing debris and unexploded bombs, and redeveloping the area into a luxury destination.
Hamas condemned the proposal, with spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou calling it a “racist” attempt to eliminate the Palestinian cause.
Trump’s idea has drawn criticism from many, including Palestinians in Gaza, who see it as an affront to their dignity and history.
Both Egypt and Jordan have rejected the proposal, and Saudi Arabia has maintained its stance on not normalizing relations with Israel without the creation of a Palestinian state.
The plan has also sparked backlash from the Palestinian envoy to the UN, Riyad Mansour, and other Middle Eastern nations, including Qatar, which mediated the recent Gaza ceasefire.
Trump’s vague details on the execution of the plan have raised further concerns, particularly about the potential deployment of U.S. troops in the region.
