South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron was found dead at the age of 24, according to police reports.
Her body was discovered on Sunday afternoon at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, by a friend who immediately contacted authorities. The call was received around 4:50 p.m. local time.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of death, though no signs of foul play have been found, and there is no evidence of a break-in.
Born in 2000, Kim Sae-ron rose to fame as a child actress with her debut in 2009. She earned critical acclaim for her role in the 2010 action thriller The Man from Nowhere and later starred in The Neighbor (2012).
Her career took a downturn following a drunk driving incident in May 2022, for which she was fined 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023. The controversy led to her role being reduced in the 2023 Netflix series Bloodhounds, her final on-screen appearance.
News of her passing prompted an outpouring of grief on social media. One fan wrote, “This is truly heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to Kim Sae-ron’s family, friends, and fans. May she rest in peace.” Another added, “I’m still in denial, wishing it was all just a bad dream. Rest in peace, Kim Sae-ron.”
In her 2022 apology for the drunk driving incident, Kim expressed deep regret, stating, “There is no excuse for this unfortunate incident, and I am disappointed and ashamed of my mistake. I will reflect and ensure this never happens again. I’m sorry.”
Once regarded as one of South Korea’s most promising young actresses, Kim Sae-ron’s career was overshadowed by controversy in recent years. She was 24.
