A 26-year-old mother, Rachael, has revealed how she sold her two-week-old baby for N600,000 due to financial struggles.
The baby was reportedly sold for N4 million to a 42-year-old woman seeking adoption, but Rachael only received N600,000 from the broker involved in the transaction.
Rachael, a resident of Asaba, Delta State, was paraded alongside two accomplices by the state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe.
The young mother explained that she has another male child and found it difficult to care for both children. She claimed the baby’s father denied paternity after she gave birth on January 27, 2025.
“I gave the baby away because I was the only one taking care of her,” Rachael said. She added that she struggled through the pregnancy by doing chores and cleaning for others to survive.
Rachael said she was introduced to a woman whom she asked for help due to her financial difficulties. “The woman gave me N600,000, and I gave her N30,000 to settle her,” she added.

The broker admitted to selling the baby for N3.5 million and confirmed giving Rachael N600,000. She claimed Rachael wanted to use the money to start a business.
The 42-year-old buyer, who paid N4 million for the baby, stated that she believed the adoption process was legitimate and that necessary documents were being processed.
