Rivers State: Man Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Murder Of Mortuary Owner

A High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has convicted and sentenced Eze Kingsley to death by hanging for the murder of Wagbara David.

The crime occurred on December 7, 2018, at No. 4 Rumumasi Community along the East-West Road in Port Harcourt.

Kingsley, a petroleum tanker conductor, faced three charges: murder and infliction of grievous bodily harm. He was accused of stabbing David with a sharp object.

David was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), where he was pronounced dead.

The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument after David, who operated a mortuary, asked Kingsley and his tanker driver to remove their vehicle from his business premises, claiming it disrupted his operations.

David’s death triggered outrage in the community, prompting residents to attempt a reprisal attack before being stopped by security personnel.

In his judgment, Justice Boma Diepiri ruled that the prosecution had proven the murder charge beyond reasonable doubt. He sentenced Kingsley to death by hanging and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
