Rapper Ruggedman At 51 Shares Why He Is Still Unmarried And Without Children

Nigerian rapper and activist Michael Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has opened up about why he is still unmarried and without children.

The 51-year-old shared his perspective during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, revealing that he made a vow in his younger years not to have a child outside of marriage—and he has stayed true to that commitment.

When asked if he had a partner or children, Ruggedman confirmed he had neither. He explained, “The crazy thing is, when I was much younger, I vowed not to have a child out of wedlock. So, I’m still wondering if I made the right decision, but I just decided because it takes a lot from both parties.”

He emphasized that marriage and fatherhood should be entered into with the right person, someone one truly wants to be with.

Addressing whether he had met someone suitable over the years, he admitted, “I have met some, but at the end of the day, it didn’t work out.”

Ruggedman also recounted a past relationship where he was close to marriage, but the woman’s mother influenced her decision to choose a wealthier suitor who was offering her mother lucrative contracts.

One of the hosts expressed surprise that he wasn’t married, saying he seemed responsible. In response, Ruggedman remarked that marriage is not necessarily a reflection of responsibility, adding that many irresponsible people are married.

He also made it clear that he refuses to be pressured into marriage.

When asked if he is difficult to live with, he said he isn’t—but he refuses to make decisions that don’t serve his best interests.

He further stated that while many people claim life is hard, challenges often arise when individuals knowingly make the wrong choices despite being aware of the consequences.

However, he agreed with the hosts that he is “principled” and doesn’t compromise on his beliefs.
