As the Princess of Wales continues to prepare for her future role as Queen, she is set to take on a prestigious royal responsibility—one that hasn’t been undertaken by a Princess of Wales in over 115 years.
For the first time in more than a century, Princess Kate, 43, is expected to begin issuing her own royal warrants, marking a major milestone in her royal journey. As she gradually returns to public duties following her cancer recovery, she may soon select some of her favorite brands and businesses to receive this distinguished honor.
A royal warrant is a mark of recognition granted to individuals or companies that have regularly supplied goods or services to the royal household. Warrants are issued for up to five years at a time, allowing recipients to display the royal arms on their products.
A Historic Step for the Princess of Wales
Although it remains unclear when William and Kate will officially grant their first royal warrants, sources close to the Princess told The Times that she is “keen to recognize British skills and industry” and hopes the announcements will come in due course.
The royal family’s official website notes that there are currently over 800 royal warrant holders across a wide range of industries, from artisan craftspeople to global corporations. The list includes everything from dry cleaners to fishmongers, agricultural machinery companies to software firms.
King Charles first began issuing warrants in 1980 when he was Prince of Wales, but this privilege was never extended to his late wife, Princess Diana.
In December, it was announced that the King had granted royal warrants to 386 companies that previously held them under Queen Elizabeth II, with well-known brands such as John Lewis, Heinz, and Nestlé among the recipients.
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla appointed seven new holders, including her hairdresser Jo Hansford, milliner Philip Treacy, and fashion designers Anna Valentine and Fiona Clare. However, some major brands, including Unilever and Cadbury, had their warrants withdrawn under the King’s review.
Kate and William’s Upcoming Engagements
The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to make their next joint public appearance in Pontypridd, South Wales, on Wednesday, ahead of St. David’s Day.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the couple, along with their three children, recently enjoyed a private getaway to the Caribbean Island of Mustique during the February half-term school break.
