Prince William has resumed his royal duties following a family holiday, but his return to the spotlight was marked by a social media slip-up.
The Prince of Wales was forced to delete and correct a post about his latest engagement after an error in wording. He was photographed shaking hands with England’s new men’s football manager, Thomas Tuchel, at Windsor Castle.
Initially, a post on X (formerly Twitter) read: “Great to meet new @england manager Thomas Tuchel for the first time today, and hear about plans for the team.” However, the post was quickly removed and reuploaded with a correction: “Great to meet new @england men’s manager Thomas Tuchel for the first time today, and hear about plans for the team.”
The correction was necessary to distinguish Tuchel’s role, as England also has a women’s team managed by Sarina Wiegman.
William’s meeting with Tuchel lasted over an hour, providing the new coach an opportunity to discuss his vision for the team since stepping into the role in January following Gareth Southgate’s departure.
As a devoted football fan and President of the Football Association since 2006, William has been a strong supporter of the national teams. He has attended major tournaments, including Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, often accompanied by his eldest son, Prince George.
Beyond his role in the FA, the Prince is a dedicated fan of Aston Villa and is frequently spotted in the stands at their Premier League and Champions League matches. In January, after attending the Emergency and Critical Care Conference in Birmingham, he was seen enjoying a drink with Villa fans in a pub before heading back to London by train.
William previously revealed his support for the club in a 2015 interview with Gary Lineker, explaining: “I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa’s always had a great history.”
Looking ahead, the Prince and Princess of Wales will visit Pontypridd in South Wales on Wednesday in honor of St David’s Day on 1 March. This marks their first joint public appearance since their reported family getaway to the Caribbean Island of Mustique during the children’s February half-term break.
