The Prince of Wales will not be attending the 2025 BAFTAs ceremony on Sunday evening. This marks another year in which Prince William has chosen not to participate in the prestigious awards, as he wasn’t scheduled to attend this time around.
With William’s absence, it’s highly unlikely that Princess Kate will make a solo appearance, particularly since the ceremony coincides with the beginning of her children’s half-term holiday.
This isn’t the first occasion that the 42-year-old prince has missed the star-studded event. He was absent in 2021 following the unexpected passing of his grandfather and in 2022 due to “diary constraints.”
Last year, William made a solo red-carpet appearance while Princess Kate stayed home to recover after her planned abdominal surgery.
Despite missing this Sunday’s ceremony, Prince William is slated to visit the London Screen Academy in Islington on Wednesday. There, he will explore the academy’s efforts to nurture future talent in the film and television industries.
In 2010, King Charles’s eldest son was appointed president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), taking over the role from Lord Attenborough, the only non-royal to have held the position.
Prior to him, Princess Anne served as president from 1972 to 2000, and Prince Philip was the first BAFTA president from 1959 to 1965.
BAFTA is dedicated to highlighting the best in film, games, and television while supporting the development of creative talent both in the UK and internationally. The charity also organizes several awards ceremonies throughout the year and hosts a continuous program of learning events, including workshops, masterclasses, scholarships, lectures, and mentoring initiatives in the UK, USA, and Asia.
