A police division in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been set on fire by enraged youths.

The unrest was triggered by the death of a young man allegedly tortured to death by officers while in police custody.

Although the incident took place on Saturday evening, full details remain unclear.

Local residents linked the tragedy to an earlier crisis that occurred on Valentine’s Day. One resident stated that protesters mobilized to the station upon learning of the man’s death, overpowering the officers as they stormed the premises.

Ondo State Police Command spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya confirmed the incident and said additional officers had been deployed to the town.

She also noted that Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi was en route to Ifon to restore order and prevent further violence.
