A 38-year-old prophet associated with the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Abimbolu Oliwafemi, has been arrested on accusations of s*xually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
The victim’s mother reported to the Ijebu Igbo divisional police station that the cleric had misled her into believing he could perform a spiritual cleansing to ward off future misfortunes. Instead, he allegedly assaulted her daughter by a river in the afternoon around 2:00 PM.
The Ogun State Police Command’s gender unit quickly apprehended the suspect and arranged for a medical examination at Medicare Hospital in Ijebu Igbo, providing necessary documentation for evidence collection.
CSP Omolola Ofutola, the police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and stated that an investigation is in progress to uncover the circumstances that allowed a self-proclaimed prophet to engage in illicit relations with a minor, whose mother is also a congregant of his church, which has approximately 100 members.
“Statements obtained from the child’s mother during the police inquiry reveal her apparent naivety and lack of awareness, as she entrusted her daughter’s safety to a deceitful prophet. The Ogun State Police Command underscores the importance of parents safeguarding their daughters from dubious male figures,” Odutola remarked.
