A 60-year-old Italian woman, Luigina Brustolin, has passed away after spending 33 years in a coma following a devastating car accident in Pederobba, Treviso, on May 23, 1992. The tragic crash also claimed the life of her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Sara.

At the time of the accident, Brustolin, then 27, sustained critical injuries, and her daughter was rushed to the hospital in serious condition but sadly passed away after 35 days. Now, three decades later, Brustolin has also succumbed to her condition.

In a statement, her family said: “After all this time, she has joined her little girl.”

The crash occurred when Brustolin, driving a Golf with her daughter in the back seat, collided with a Nissan Primera driven by a 46-year-old local man. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, and an alleged witness was never located.

Brustolin had been married for only a few years and had been a mother for less than two. After the accident, her mother cared for her for 17 years until her own passing.

Her husband, Franco, eventually remarried and had two children, now aged 25 and 23.

He shared that his children knew Brustolin as “Aunt Luigina,” stating: “I started a new life, which didn’t sit well with some people. However, I never abandoned Luigina. I brought her to my house on weekends, and for my children, she was simply Aunt Luigina. The last time I visited her was a month ago.”

Brustolin’s condition deteriorated last week, leading to her passing on February 7, according to local media. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 12, at 3 p.m. in the parish church of Colbertaldo.
