Lagos State: 14-Year-Old Girl Apprehended For Stealing N4m

A 14-year-old girl has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos, on charges of allegedly stealing N4m.

According to Vanguard, the defendant, whose address is not disclosed, faces two charges: breach of peace and theft, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Insp. Ayodele Adeosun informed the court that the minor committed the offenses on January 31 at 12:01 p.m. in the Ajara Tozunkanmeh area of Badagry, Lagos State.

Adeosun alleged that the defendant entered the home of Mrs. Hannah Oni without consent using a spare key, causing a disturbance. The prosecutor further claimed that the defendant stole N4m from the complainant.

“This is not the first time the defendant has entered the complainant’s house with a spare key to steal money. On that day, Bayewunmi was caught inside the house stealing money,” Adeosun stated. The defendant was subsequently handed over to the police for prosecution.

The prosecutor noted that the offenses violated Sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the amount of N300,000, with one surety, who must be the defendant’s father. The case was adjourned until March 5 for mention.
