King Charles and Queen Camilla are preparing to mark their 20th wedding anniversary with a special overseas trip.

The royal couple, aged 76 and 77 respectively, are expected to embark on a state visit to Rome on April 9. While Buckingham Palace has yet to release full details, it is reported that Their Majesties will meet with Pope Francis at Vatican City during their visit to Italy, according to The Sun.

Although their day will involve official duties, the couple is said to plan a private celebration of their anniversary as well.

This follows the announcement last year that King Charles will continue to travel despite his ongoing cancer treatment. It also comes after the success of the royal couple’s tour of Australia and Samoa last October.

A palace spokesperson previously stated: “We are now working on a full overseas tour programme for next year, which is a significant milestone for us, knowing we can plan with confidence.”

For their 19th wedding anniversary in 2024, Charles and Camilla chose to celebrate quietly at their Scottish residence.
