Kenya: Woman Arrested For Allegedly Killing 4-Year-Old Son Over Dirt On Self

A Kenyan woman, Melvin Owuor, has been arrested in Nairobi for allegedly killing her four-year-old son.

In a statement released on Sunday, February 16, 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Melvin and a friend were taken into custody in connection with the boy’s death.

The investigation revealed that the child succumbed to injuries inflicted by his mother after he reportedly soiled himself.

On December 9, 2024, Melvin and her friend took the lifeless child to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary. However, after being advised by mortuary staff to report the incident to the police, the pair failed to return and switched off their phones.

The mortician’s suspicions led to a report being filed at Mowlem Police Station, prompting an investigation by DCI officers from Dandora and the Nairobi Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).

Initially, Melvin claimed the boy died in his sleep. However, detectives uncovered that the child had died from injuries sustained after being beaten for soiling himself.

Further interrogation confirmed that Melvin was the boy’s biological mother, adding a heartbreaking layer to the already tragic case.

The DCI stated that the suspect remains in custody as detectives work to uncover the full circumstances of the child’s death.

“The pursuit of justice continues as we work tirelessly to understand the truth and hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” the statement read.
