Former communications secretary to the Prince and Princess of Wales, Jason Knauf, has shared fascinating insights into the royal couple’s life in a new documentary.
Having worked for William and Kate from 2015 to 2021—including during their time in a shared office with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—Jason offered rare glimpses into their world during a special episode of 60 Minutes Australia aired on Sunday.
Among the topics he discussed were Prince William’s relationship with Prince Harry, his potential as a future King, his lowest moment, and why he and Princess Kate delayed announcing her cancer diagnosis.
Prince George’s Memorable Meeting with Barack Obama
In addition to discussing the couple’s public life, Jason also reflected on intimate family moments, including the time Prince George met former U.S. President Barack Obama in 2016.
The heartwarming encounter took place at Kensington Palace, where Barack and Michelle Obama later dined with William, Kate, and Prince Harry. One particularly sweet moment from the evening was captured in an iconic photograph of young George shaking hands with the president, dressed in white gingham pyjamas and a monogrammed dressing gown.
Recalling the occasion, Jason said: “It was slightly before his bedtime. They thought, ‘Well, it would be nice to have this memory of him saying hello to this historic president…’”
He added that after the meeting, George was mesmerized by The Beast, the presidential limousine, which was parked outside Kensington Palace.
“He was looking at this thing like he had never seen anything like it. And that’s when you realize—this is a really unusual job.”
The moment remains one of the most charming glimpses into royal family life, highlighting the unique experiences that come with being a young prince.
