The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were spotted sharing a rare moment of public affection as they held hands during their official visit to Nepal on Thursday.
On the second day of their royal tour, Prince Edward and Sophie explored the scenic Godawari National Botanic Garden. As they descended a flight of stone stairs, Edward tenderly held his wife’s hand, showcasing a touching display of their enduring bond.
Married for over 25 years, the couple also shared lighthearted moments as Edward planted a magnolia tree—just metres from those planted by the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh in 1986.
Sophie playfully encouraged her husband as he shoveled soil into the hole, cheering, “Keep going, darling.” Edward, in turn, laughed and quipped, “That’s the best bit of exercise I’ve had in ages.”
During their visit, the royals learned about the climate challenges impacting Nepal and the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.
Scientists from ICIMOD demonstrated innovative technologies aimed at developing climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable land and water management.
The Duke and Duchess also met with the seven finalists of the UK-funded Hindu Kush Himalaya Innovation Challenge for Entrepreneurs. Their six-day tour of Nepal highlights the strong ties between the South Asian nation and the UK.
