Gambia: Girlfriend Set Boyfriend’s Family Home Ablaze Over Minute Argument

A 19-year-old Gambian woman, Ramatoulie Baldeh, has been taken into custody by authorities for allegedly setting fire to her boyfriend’s family home in Kerr Sering, Gambia.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, reportedly following a dispute with her boyfriend.

According to local media, Baldeh lit a plastic bag on fire and threw it onto the bed, before opening a gas cylinder, which led to the spread of the flames. The resulting inferno engulfed the entire house, causing extensive damage and destroying all of the belongings within.

Although no injuries were reported, the fire left 10 tenants in the compound homeless.

The affected tenants have spoken out about their dire situation, with one of them telling journalists, “We are now without a home, and all our belongings have been destroyed. We urgently need assistance.”

The suspect, Ramatoulie Baldeh, is currently in custody at the Senegambia Police Station as the police’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) continues their investigation into the incident.
