Elon Musk has announced that his AI startup, xAI, will release its latest chatbot, Grok 3, on Monday, February 17. Musk has billed the new model as the “smartest AI on Earth,” as competition in the artificial intelligence market continues to intensify.
The debut will feature a demonstration at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time (0400 GMT), according to a post by Musk on his social media platform, X. Musk stated that Grok 3 was trained on synthetic data and designed to enhance its reasoning by learning from past mistakes and reviewing data for logical consistency.
“Will be honing product with the team all weekend, so offline until then,” Musk wrote. The billionaire entrepreneur, who also serves as a key advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump on reducing government spending, has been working to establish a stronger presence in the AI sector.
Previously, Musk mentioned that Grok 3 was in its final development stages and would be released within weeks. xAI aims to carve out a space in a market currently dominated by major players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT as AI adoption accelerates in daily life.
Competition in the AI space has intensified, especially after Chinese startup DeepSeek launched a low-cost, high-quality chatbot last month that quickly overtook ChatGPT in downloads on Apple’s App Store, raising concerns about a shift in global AI leadership.
Despite his previous warnings about AI’s risks to humanity, Musk has aggressively expanded xAI’s presence. In December, the company announced it had raised $6 billion from investors, including U.S. venture capitalists, chipmakers Nvidia and AMD, and investment funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This followed another $6 billion fundraising round in May, making xAI one of the world’s most valuable startups, though still smaller than OpenAI.
Musk founded xAI in July 2023, shortly after signing an open letter calling for a pause in the development of advanced AI models. Meanwhile, OpenAI reportedly rejected Musk’s $97.4 billion acquisition offer, according to its board chairman on Friday, February 14.
