Denmark Crown Prince Arrives Unaccompanied For Military Training

Crown Prince Christian, the 19-year-old son of King Frederik and Queen Mary, embarked on a new chapter on Monday as he arrived to begin his military training with the Gardehusarregimentet (Grand Hussar Regiment).

The future king made the journey alone, without his parents or an aide, as he enrolled at Antvorskov barracks in Slagelse, Denmark. He will undergo four months of basic military training and reside at the barracks, located about an hour from his royal home at Frederik VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg, Copenhagen.

Currently on a gap year, Christian previously spent three months in East Africa last autumn, working on two farms and learning about conservation.

Speaking briefly to the media as he entered the barracks, Christian shared his anticipation: “I’m excited and I’m looking forward to it.”

Earlier this year, he joined his parents in hosting their first New Year’s receptions at the palace. Christian is also an older brother to Princess Isabella, 17, and 14-year-old twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
