The Princess of Wales may opt to miss the star-studded event for a relatable reason: it coincides with the start of her children’s half-term holiday. As a devoted mother to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Kate has always prioritized family time, particularly during school breaks.
The Wales family often cherishes private moments together, whether at their Norfolk retreat, Anmer Hall, or on a special family getaway. While there’s been no official confirmation, it wouldn’t be surprising if Kate chose to spend the evening with her children rather than attend the awards.
Last month, BAFTA film committee chairman Anna Higgs expressed optimism that Kate would join her husband, Prince William, who serves as BAFTA president, at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
However, William attended solo last year while Kate remained out of the spotlight. The last time she walked the BAFTA red carpet was two years ago, though that event fell at the end of her children’s school break rather than the beginning.
For that appearance, Kate stunned in a recycled white Alexander McQueen gown from 2019, which she elevated with elegant black velvet gloves and striking gold earrings from Zara. The BAFTAs provide a rare opportunity for the Prince and Princess of Wales to showcase their red-carpet glamour, and Kate’s style never fails to impress.
In recent weeks, Kate has gradually resumed public engagements after completing chemotherapy treatment last summer. The EE BAFTA Film Awards, hosted by Doctor Who star David Tennant, will take place at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday, February 16.
