Akwa Ibom State: 10-Year-Old Boy Detained For R*ping 3-Year-Old Girl

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has detained a 10-year-old boy named Bright James, following allegations of defiling a three-year-old girl.

DSP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, issued a statement on February 7, 2025, in Uyo, addressing claims of illegal detention regarding James.

According to the PPRO, the boy admitted to the allegations voluntarily and without coercion. He is set to appear in court on February 10, 2025.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has responded to a viral report concerning the alleged illegal detention of a minor, Bright Okon James,” the statement noted.

“To clarify, the minor was taken into custody due to allegations of defiling a three-year-old girl (name withheld). The case is currently under investigation, and available evidence, including a medical report, supports the allegations. Additionally, the suspect has voluntarily confessed to the offense.

“He will face charges in court on February 10, 2025. The command insists that no trial by ordeal has taken place, as such practices are illegal under Nigerian law. The police strongly denounce any form of extrajudicial action.”

The PPRO emphasized that the police, led by Commissioner Baba Azare, are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served through proper legal channels.

“We urge the public to avoid spreading false information and to allow the investigation to proceed through the appropriate legal processes,” she concluded.
