The Ukrainian military reported intercepting 50 out of 72 drones launched by Russia overnight and carrying out an attack on one of Russia’s largest oil refineries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed that Russia had used at least 1,250 aerial bombs, over 750 attack drones, and more than 20 missiles to target Ukraine in the past week.
“Only determination can stop such terrorists. We are working closely with our partners to enhance our defense capabilities and reduce Russia’s ability to terrorize Ukraine. Long-range capabilities are vital,” Zelenskiy stated. “Sanctions are crucial, and lowering oil prices is important. Unity and resolute action are key to protecting lives.”
Additionally, Kyiv’s general staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces attacked Russia’s Ryazan oil refinery on Sunday night, with explosions and fires reported in the area. The Ryazan Oil Refinery is one of the four largest refineries in Russia.
Ukrainian military and civilian authorities have not yet reported casualties or damages.
In response, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that its air defense systems destroyed 15 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and two sea drones in the Black Sea.
It also stated that eight drones were downed over the Ryazan region, six over the Kursk region, and one over the Belgorod region overnight.
Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov reported on Sunday that there were no casualties in the latest drone attacks, but authorities are still assessing the damage.
