Brazilian footballer Hulk and his new wife, Camila Angelo, have faced criticism for what has been described as a “cruel betrayal” of their family after Hulk married his ex-wife’s niece.
The 38-year-old, who plays for Atletico Mineiro, wed Camila Angelo, with the two having already held a civil ceremony in 2020. Hulk shared a post on Instagram over the weekend, expressing his happiness: “Today I’m a happy full man, fulfilled in all areas of my life.”
Hulk was previously married to Camila’s aunt, Iran Angelo. The former couple was together for 12 years and had three children — sons Ian and Tiago, and daughter Alice — who are cousins to Camila. In 2020, Hulk shocked many by marrying Camila shortly after his separation from Iran.
Rayssa, one of Iran’s sisters, has spoken out harshly against Camila and Hulk, accusing them of betrayal. She wrote:
“Today is a hard day to swallow, revealing how far betrayal can go when it comes from those we least expect. If my mother were alive, I’m sure she wouldn’t have been able to bear this monstrosity. Seeing a granddaughter, raised under her roof, betray her own family in such a cruel way would be an impossible blow to overcome.”
Rayssa continued, reflecting on her mother’s death seven years ago and the “macabre spectacle” of the wedding, adding: “It made me realize that my mother couldn’t be here, as she wouldn’t have been able to withstand such shame and monstrosity!”
She further likened the situation to the biblical figure Judas, saying: “Judas is not just in ancient stories; sometimes he sleeps under the same roof, eats at the same table, and at the right moment, stabs you in the back.”
Rayssa criticized Camila for her actions, calling her a “manipulator” and accusing her of betraying her family for money. She shared a photo from the wedding, where her sister had been a bridesmaid, calling it the wedding of a “traitor.”
In 2021, Hulk and Camila announced they were expecting their first child, Zaya, followed by a second pregnancy announcement for their daughter, Aisha, in 2022.
Rumors about Hulk’s relationship with Camila began circulating in December 2019, just five months after his marriage to Iran ended. Reports suggest that Hulk informed his family, including his children, Ian, Tiago, and Alice, about the relationship at that time. The couple’s court marriage took place in September 2020 while Hulk was still playing for Shanghai SIPG in China.
A spokesman for Hulk defended the couple’s transparency, stating at the time: “Hulk called Camila’s parents and brother to tell them the truth. It was Hulk himself who made the information public because he had nothing to hide. His position is transparency, and he wants to avoid lies and malicious comments.”
