A devastating incident occurred on Monday, January 13, 2025, when a 27-year-old Nigerian-Italian woman, Patricia Masithela, was fatally mauled by a pack of four or five dogs in the garden of a friend’s house on the outskirts of Latina, a city located south of Rome.
According to reports from AnsaEnglish, the attack happened in the early hours of the morning, around 3 am. Eyewitnesses stated that the same pack of dogs had previously attacked another woman and the owner of the house just last week.
Hearing Patricia’s desperate screams, some neighbors immediately alerted the police, who swiftly responded to the scene.
Police officers from the Latina police station attempted to scare away the dogs by firing a gunshot, resulting in one dog being killed and another injured. The remaining dogs fled the scene.
Despite efforts to save her, Patricia was transported to the local Santa Maria Goretti hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.
The woman’s friend was not present at home during the attack, and investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish responsibility.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of proper animal control and safety measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
