Singer Darlington Achakpo, known as Speed Darlington, has been released from detention.
His lawyer, Stan Alieke, shared the news on social media, stating:
“We are pleased to announce that our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo, also known as Speed Darlington (Akpi), has regained his freedom after two months of unlawful detention.
“As his legal team, we will explore all legal avenues to ensure justice for the violation of his fundamental human rights by the Nigerian Police Force and the unfair treatment he endured.
Mr. Achakpo extends his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported him, with special thanks to my colleagues, Mr. Marshal Abubakar Esq., Barr. Deji Adeyanju, Barr. Hamza Nuh, and Barr. David. ~ Freedom comes through struggle.”
Speed Darlington had been held in police custody since November 2024, following allegations of jumping bail.
He is currently under investigation after his colleague, Burna Boy, filed a petition claiming that Speed Darlington defamed him in a video released last December, where he insinuated that Burna Boy won a Grammy Award by “bending down” for Diddy.
