A South African woman, Phindiswa Toshi Mpomposhe, was tragically stabbed to death by her boyfriend, Mkhuseli Ludidi, in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on New Year’s Day.
Advocacy group Women For Change issued a statement on Thursday, January 9, 2025, detailing the tragic incident. It was reported that Phindiswa’s death followed an argument over her choice of clothing—she wore bum shorts to the beach, which her boyfriend deemed too revealing.
Phindiswa had gone to the beach with her sister, friends, and her boyfriend to celebrate the New Year. The disagreement arose after she changed into the shorts, which she had borrowed from her sister. Though the couple appeared to have resolved the issue, the argument escalated when they returned home, and Mkhuseli fatally stabbed Phindiswa.
The advocacy group’s statement explained, “It is alleged that the incident stemmed from an argument between the couple, reportedly triggered by Phindiswa’s choice of clothing and her socializing with friends during the New Year’s celebration.”
Witnesses stated that, despite the argument, the group continued to celebrate before heading to bed. Later, the sisters left for the beach while the couple remained asleep. Hours later, the family received a call from the police.
According to authorities, after the murder, Mkhuseli arrived at the Harare police station in Khayelitsha covered in blood, claiming someone had been injured.
However, he fled before providing further details, leading to a police chase. He was eventually apprehended with two kitchen knives in his possession. Phindiswa’s lifeless body was later found in Kuyasa.
The couple had been dating for eight months, and witnesses revealed that Phindiswa had endured ongoing abuse, which had turned physical. The statement concluded, “We are heartbroken over the loss of such a beautiful soul. Fly high, Sister.”
