Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering and is no longer in critical condition after being stabbed during a confrontation with an intruder at his Mumbai home, according to police on Thursday, January 16. Khan, 54, underwent immediate surgery following the attack.
The actor, who is the son of former cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, is being treated and is now out of danger, confirmed senior police officer Gedam Dixit.
Earlier, a hospital official stated that Khan was undergoing surgery, with the full extent of his injuries to be assessed after the procedure.
A foreign object was found near his spine, according to Niraj Uttamani, the chief operating officer of the hospital where Khan was admitted at around 3:30 a.m.
Khan, who has appeared in over 70 films and television shows, lives in Bandra with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children. A representative for the family confirmed that Khan was undergoing surgery after the attempted burglary, adding that the rest of the family is safe.
A female employee at their home was also injured in the attack and is receiving treatment. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the intruder.
In light of the incident, film industry figures have called for increased security in the city. Clyde Crasto, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party, questioned how vulnerable ordinary citizens might be if even high-profile individuals with security can be attacked in their homes.
Actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt also urged for stronger police presence in the suburbs, which are home to many in the film industry, expressing concerns over the safety of the area.
