The Prince and Princess of Wales have issued a heartfelt statement following the tragic death of Edward Pettifer, the stepson of William’s former nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke.

In their message, the future King and Queen Consort expressed their shock and sorrow, saying, “Catherine and I have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and all those innocent people who have been tragically affected by this horrific attack.”

Edward, 31, was one of the 14 victims killed in the recent terror attack in New Orleans, with the preliminary cause of death listed as “blunt force injuries.”

He was the eldest son of former Coldstream Guards officer Charles Pettifer and Camilla Wyatt. The couple also had a son, Harry, 29, before separating. Charles later married Tiggy, 59, in 1999, having known her since his teenage years.

Tiggy, who served as the nanny to Princes William and Harry from 1993 to 1999, developed a close and supportive relationship with the brothers, particularly through their mother Princess Diana’s death.

According to The Telegraph, Tiggy is also Edward’s godmother. She has two other sons, Tom, 22, who is Prince William’s godson, and Fred, 23, who is Prince Harry’s godson. Tom was a page boy at the 2011 wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Tiggy now runs a bed and breakfast at the family home near Crickhowell in Wales.
