Queen Camilla And Meghan Markle Share Heartache Over Beloved Pets’ Loss

This week has been an emotional rollercoaster for Meghan Markle. Alongside the excitement of launching her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, the Duchess has been mourning the loss of her cherished dog, Guy.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Meghan expressed her grief, writing: “I have cried too many tears to count—the kind that make you stand in the shower, hoping the running water will somehow wash them away or make them less real. But they remain. And that’s okay too.

“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”

Queen Camilla, a fellow dog lover, recently experienced a similar loss. At the end of 2024, her beloved dog Beth passed away. The palace shared a touching tribute on social media, saying: “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from @Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, who brought such joy—whether on walkies, helping with official duties, or curled up by the fire.”

Given their shared love for dogs, it’s likely Queen Camilla can empathize with Meghan’s sorrow. The two women have bonded over their mutual affection for animals in the past, as Prince Harry noted in his memoir, Spare.

Recalling Meghan and Camilla’s first meeting, Harry wrote: “Meg talked about her two ‘fur babies,’ Bogart and Guy, both rescues. Guy had a particularly heartbreaking story—abandoned in Kentucky’s deep woods without food or water, he ended up in a kill shelter. Beagles are euthanized more often in Kentucky than in any other state, and when Meg saw his photo online, she fell in love.”

Harry continued: “I watched Camilla’s face darken. As the patron of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, these stories always hit her hard. Pa too. He couldn’t bear the thought of any animal suffering, likely reminded of the time his own beloved dog, Pooh, disappeared on a grouse moor in Scotland—never to be seen again.”

The shared grief over their pets likely deepens the bond between Meghan and Camilla, who both understand the profound connection one can have with a loyal companion. We can only imagine the heartfelt stories exchanged by the royals about their much-loved animals.
