The Princess of Wales has taken on a meaningful new patronage, stepping out for a surprise visit to South Wales.
Kate, 43, has followed in the footsteps of both King Charles and the late Princess Diana by becoming the patron of Tŷ Hafan, a children’s hospice in Sully, near Cardiff.
Diana played a key role in the hospice’s early fundraising efforts in 1995, with opera legend Luciano Pavarotti performing a concert at Cardiff Castle at her request to support the cause. Tŷ Hafan officially opened in 1999, and Charles became its patron in 2001.
During her visit, Kate participated in a music therapy session, with Kensington Palace also donating musical instruments to help the charity expand its sessions.
Supporting children and families has long been a priority for Kate, who became a patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice (EACH) shortly after her marriage to Prince William—a relationship she continues to nurture.
Now, the Princess looks forward to building a similar bond with Tŷ Hafan and the families it serves in Wales. Later in the day, Kate will also highlight excellence in Welsh textile manufacturing during her second engagement.
