If you’ve watched the trailer for Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, as many times as we have, you’ve probably noticed her close friend, Mindy Kaling, making an appearance.
In the trailer, Mindy is seen enjoying a meal in Meghan’s kitchen, and during an interview on the Golden Globes red carpet, the actress shared some rare insights into her time with the royal couple, including Prince Harry’s kitchen skills and his involvement in Meghan’s new project.
Mindy revealed that Meghan had reached out to her while she was on maternity leave, inviting her to Montecito, where Meghan and Prince Harry reside. Speaking about Meghan’s cooking, Mindy said, “I consider myself an okay cook, but Meghan completely blew me away. Her recipes are really accessible, and she has a garden from scratch—which I could never manage—and chickens, which I’d probably end up killing if I tried to care for them. But other than that, it’s all very approachable.”
Prince Harry’s Role
Mindy also gave a rare glimpse into Prince Harry’s cooking abilities, saying, “Harry was there, but he didn’t cook for me. However, I’ve heard he’s actually a pretty good cook and knows his way around the kitchen.”
Though Prince Harry makes a brief appearance in the trailer, hugging Meghan in the kitchen, Mindy’s comments suggest that he might be more involved in the show than it initially appears.
Harry and Meghan’s Kitchen Adventures
The kitchen holds special meaning for Meghan and Harry—it was even the place where Meghan revealed she was “roasting a chicken” when Prince Harry proposed at their former home, Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace.
Meghan has previously shared her love for roast chicken, telling Good Housekeeping during her Suits days, “There’s nothing more delicious (or impressive) than a perfectly roasted chicken. If you have an Ina Garten-level recipe, it’s a game changer. I bring that to dinner parties and make a lot of friends.”
We can’t wait to see the different meals Meghan prepares for her friends in her new show—though the trailer seems to focus more on sweet treats than savory dishes!
