Meghan Markle has been keeping fans eagerly awaiting her upcoming Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, after releasing the trailer in early January.
The teaser offered a glimpse into her private life with close friends, including Mindy Kaling, but one notable absence was her husband, Prince Harry, who made only a few rare appearances.
Edward Coram James, CEO of Go Up, believes that Harry’s decision to take a step back is likely “for the best” as the couple works on developing their individual brands.
Although With Love, Meghan has been postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, Edward shared his thoughts on what this shift means for the royal couple, who have been married for five years.
Prince Harry’s Absence
“Harry not being heavily involved in Meghan’s show is probably a wise move for now,” Edward said. “Their joint brand has faced several challenges in recent years, and regardless of whether With Love, Meghan is a hit or not, this is a good opportunity for Meghan to show she can succeed independently.”
He continued, “For Harry, stepping away from Meghan’s shadow and focusing on his own public and professional life is a smart move. He is the only one who can shape his career and legacy at this point. By concentrating on his passions—veterans, conservation, and mental health—he can leave the tabloid drama behind.”
The couple stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and relocated to Montecito, where they live in an £11 million home with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Meghan’s Netflix Guests
Although With Love, Meghan wasn’t filmed inside their family home, Meghan chose a nearby estate for the shoot. Fans might have expected to see more of Harry, but instead, Meghan was supported by a carefully chosen group of friends who played key roles in her life.
“This is strategic,” Edward explained. “Meghan is aware her brand has faced challenges, so this is about softening her image and giving people a reason to connect with her again. By bringing in these specific friends, she’s signaling that she’s just a woman surrounded by a supportive and talented group.”
He compared it to Taylor Swift’s “1989 era” when the singer introduced her “squad” to the public. “It’s curated, but also clever,” Edward added.
Meghan’s Friends and Their Significance
Daniel Martin, who did Meghan’s natural wedding makeup in 2018, ties her to her royal wedding, which marked a high point in her global visibility.
Abigail Spencer, who met Meghan in 2007 and co-starred with her on Suits, serves as a reminder of Meghan’s Hollywood roots. Mindy Kaling, meanwhile, signals Meghan’s alignment with strong, successful women in entertainment.
Mindy, who was two months postpartum when filming alongside Meghan, described her as “such a thoughtful, creative person” with a love for gardening and impressive cooking skills. Mindy also shared that while Harry was present during filming, “he didn’t cook for me, but I hear he’s a pretty good cook. He knows his way around a kitchen.”
