A Kentucky man allegedly shot a Wendy’s employee after becoming enraged over the temperature of his fries, prompting a violent exchange of gunfire, police report.

Monjah D. James-Wooten, 25, has been charged with assault in connection with the January 6 incident, according to a press release from Louisville Metro Police.

The altercation began when James-Wooten and his companions argued with the employee at the drive-thru of a Wendy’s in Louisville around 10:41 p.m. over cold fries.

After the argument, the group entered the restaurant, where James-Wooten allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a shot. The employee, in turn, returned fire. James-Wooten then reportedly fired multiple rounds, one of which struck the employee in the buttocks.

The suspect and his group fled the scene before police arrived, but the incident was captured on surveillance footage. The employee was taken to the hospital for treatment.

James-Wooten was quickly identified, and the following day, one of his co-defendants contacted police, revealing she had been shot during the incident. She admitted to investigators that she was with James-Wooten at the Wendy’s when the shooting occurred.

James-Wooten surrendered to authorities on Friday. He is currently being held on $50,000 bail at Louisville Metro Corrections and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
