Assistant Commissioner of Police, Daniel Amah, who gained national recognition for rejecting a $200,000 bribe, has converted to Islam.
Amah embraced Islam in a private ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
During the event, the Emir advised Amah to seek Islamic knowledge and diligently follow the five pillars of Islam: belief in Allah, the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and Zakat (charitable giving).
The Emir also prayed for Amah’s success in becoming one of the best Muslims and encouraged him to maintain his good character, respecting and obeying his parents regardless of their religious beliefs.
Amah gained widespread recognition in April 2022 when, as the Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he rejected a $200,000 bribe offered by armed robbery suspects who had stolen over N300 million from a Bureau De Change operator.
The primary suspect, Ali Zaki, had orchestrated the robbery of a Bureau De Change operator carrying $750,000 in cash.
In recognition of his integrity, Amah was promoted from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 10, 2022.
He was also awarded the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award by former President Muhammadu Buhari, a recognition recommended by Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
