Timilehin Olatunji, a 35-year-old Nigerian man, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the brutal r*pe of a woman in Nottingham, United Kingdom. The attack, described as “violent, degrading, and sustained,” occurred in the early hours of September 29, 2024.
The victim used a mobile app to record the audio of the assault, which she later provided to police as evidence. After escaping, she reported the incident to specially trained officers.
Olatunji, who was known as a “church-going pillar of the community,” was arrested shortly after the report. He later pleaded guilty to three counts of r*pe.
Court Proceedings
During sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on January 15, 2025, Judge Michael Auty condemned Olatunji’s actions, calling them “despicable and vile.”
“You were, for many years, a pillar of the community, a church-goer who helped others. But on September 29, last year, you r*ped a woman in the most brutal, sadistic, and cruel way imaginable,” the judge said.
The judge detailed the harrowing ordeal, noting that the victim screamed repeatedly during the attack, which lasted over an hour. Despite her pleas and attempts to record the assault, Olatunji continued.
“She may never recover from what you chose to do to her that evening,” the judge added.
Details of the Assault
Prosecutor Dawn Pritchard revealed that Olatunji r*ped the victim three times—first in a bedroom and then twice in a living room. The victim’s recording of the assault, lasting 56 minutes, captured her screams and cries for him to stop.
Despite her protests and warnings that she was recording the attack, Olatunji reportedly said, “Go ahead, record it.”
Sentencing and Aftermath
Olatunji was sentenced to 10 years in prison, added to the S*x Offenders’ Register for life, and given an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim. He will also face automatic deportation two-thirds of the way through his sentence.
Detective Constable Emily Bucklow of Nottinghamshire Police praised the victim’s bravery in recording the attack and assisting in the prosecution.
“The recorded evidence of Olatunji’s horrific assault made this case particularly harrowing for all the officers who worked on it,” Bucklow said. “Her courage and dignity throughout this process have been remarkable.”
Bucklow expressed hope that the sentencing would provide closure for the victim and encourage other survivors of s*xual violence to come forward.
“This sentence sends a strong message that such appalling crimes will not go unpunished,” she added.
