Murder Suspect Arrested After Woman Fatally Stabbed In Plymouth, Prompting Citywide Lockdown

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of a woman in Plymouth.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, was discovered with severe injuries on West Hoe Road on Wednesday night and later succumbed to her wounds in the hospital.

Earlier on Thursday, Devon and Cornwall Police issued an appeal for information regarding Paul Antony Butler in connection with the incident. Later that evening, Butler was located and apprehended in Liskeard, Cornwall, approximately 20 miles from Plymouth. He is now in police custody.

The police have confirmed that they will refer themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior interactions with the victim.

A spokesperson for the force stated that they are “continuing to support” the victim’s family during this difficult time.

They also expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation:
“Officers would like to thank the local community for their assistance and patience as our enquiries into this incident continue.”
