Rory Callum Sykes, a former child star, tragically lost his life in the catastrophic wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles.

His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news of her son’s death in a fire that consumed his home. Rory, 32, is believed to have been trapped in a self-contained cottage near Malibu when the blaze began.

In an emotional interview with 10 News, Shelley described her desperate attempt to save him, saying, “I couldn’t put out the cinders on his roof with a hose because the water was turned off. When the fire department brought me back, his cottage was completely destroyed. He will be deeply missed.”

Reports indicate that Shelley had to drive a quarter of a mile to seek help after being unable to reach 911. Sadly, firefighters later informed her that Rory had died from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to The Mirror.

Rory was best known for hosting the British RTV show Kiddy Kapers in 1998. Born blind and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, he had previously overcome significant challenges in his life, including therapies to regain his sight and learn to walk.

In a touching tribute on Twitter/X, Shelley wrote, “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes to the Malibu fires yesterday. I’m totally heartbroken. British-born Australian living in America, a wonderful son, a gift born on mine and his grandma’s birthday 29 July 92, Rory Callum Sykes.”

She ended her message with, “He will be incredibly missed by @shelleysykes, mama, his pet peacocks Edgee and Mickie, and all his online fans around the world!”

Fans and followers flooded her post with condolences, expressing their sympathy for the loss.
